Mediation

Mediation is a confidential, results-focused form of dispute resolution.

It is a process favoured by experienced legal practitioners as it allows parties to negotiate acceptable outcomes to disputes without incurring excessive financial or emotional costs.

Skilled mediators work with all parties and their legal representatives to ensure that the issues necessary for decision making are explored in a productive and supported way.

When parties have the information they need and are open to problem solving and compromise, mediations are a highly effective way of resolving conflict without combat.

Anne-Marie Rice

I am an award-winning, nationally recognised and accredited mediator (AMDRAS).  My philosophy that conflict can be resolved without combat has influenced the dispute resolution work of family lawyers around the country.

My Family Law career spans over 25 years, having begun as a legal associate in the (then) Family Court of Australia. I have been an Independent Children’s Lawyer, a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, an accredited Family Law Specialist, and was the inaugural QLS Outstanding Accredited Specialist in 2019.

I have worked in both a large commercial law firm and my own family law and mediation practices. Since 2020, I have taught mediation and dispute resolution courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at one of Australia’s leading law schools.  I taught the Family Law subject for five years and I have presented countless keynotes and trainings on technical and dispute resolution topics to national and international audiences.

My mediation work allows me to apply a truly unique combination of technical legal skills (including interim decision making as a Senior Judicial Registrar at the FCFCOA), deep understanding of the dynamics of conflict, and commitment to finding personalised ways to resolution and lasting agreement.

I have been personally responsible for conducting several hundred mediations, and I built the recent dispute resolution offerings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, training over 120 registrars in sophisticated dispute resolution techniques. This work has transformed the experience of many thousands of Australian families, informed the practice of Australian lawyers, and demonstrated that negotiated outcomes can be successfully achieved in even the most complex scenarios.

I look forward to working with you.

Jennifer Crawley

I am a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner and have over 15 years’ experience in family law, working in both private practice and Legal Aid ACT before my work as a Senior Judicial Registrar at the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA).

At Legal Aid ACT I managed the Family Dispute Resolution program. In both my role at Legal Aid and the FCFCOA, I worked with many hundreds of Australian families to embrace the process of dispute resolution and exit the legal system with a lasting agreement in place.

My key national operations role in the FCFCOA was guiding registrars, parties and practitioners through complex legal concepts, with a focus on practical opportunities for resolution.
I completed my Graduate Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution in 2015.

My warm and approachable style is built on the confidence of high-level technical legal skills and deep experience with parties who are navigating the challenges of relationship breakdown.
